churchPentecost is Greek for “the fiftieth day” and commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ (120 in all). Pentecost is celebrated 50 days (seven weeks) after Easter Sunday.

Pentecost is referred to by some Christians as the “Birthday of the Church” and is associated with the color red to symbolize joy and the fire of the Holy Spirit.

In the UK, Pentecost is sometimes called Whitsunday and is celebrated with morris dancing and cheese rolling.
